But whenever a big-name act came to town, Smith would bring a couple of his guitars to concerts, ingratiate himself with the roadies, and try to get a pre- or post-show audience with one of his guitar heroes. How do u put on the mouth piece and make a sound? If you are talking about a single reed instrument such as a saxophone this is how you proceed. First you have to moisten the reed using water or your own saliva. You can do this by placing it in your mouth and rubbing both sides of it with your tongue. Take particular care not to damage the tip of the reed. Take the mouthpiece in one hand and lay the reed on the flat part of the mouthpiece with the thinnest part of the reed towards the tip of the mouthpiece flatside down.
The tip of the mouthpiece is the opposite end of the mouthpiece from the one that you put on the instrument. You can’t mistake the two. The end that goes on the instrument is like the opening of a tube. With the reed laying flat on the mouthpiece gently slide the ligature clamp with one or two screws over the end of the mouthpiece and the reed. Take care once more not to damage the end of the reed. Line the very tip of the reed up with the very tip of the mouthpiece leaving a sliver of the mouthpiece showing.
Some mouthpieces have a guide line marked on them.

McCarty Soapbar goldtop offered with your choice of quality pickups. Stock pickups are Seymour Duncan Soapbars but this one has been retrofitted with a pair of DiMarzio Dlx Plus DP soapbars but unlike most soapbars, they’re actually stacked humbuckers and are designed as an excellent compromise between single coil soaps and mini-humbuckers, characterized by clean and open soapbar tone with punchy lows, well defined highs, with no muddiness.
They’re 4-conductor in case you want to put some splitter pots in there. As an option, I’m also offering a great set of Lollar traditional wound P Soapbars which are going to appeal more to the P90 purists. Take your pick, no charge for the swap. Other features include wide-fat neck, compensated wraparound stoptail bridge and mahogany body with a thick maple cap.
Cosmetically, it’s not perfect with the worst flaw being a scratch on top shown above. Frets are in great shape and it supports a nice low set up. For your soapbar fans, this is a nice buy on a quality first year McCarty Soapbar. A few months ago I was down to just a few PRS’s and was desperately looking for a dozen or so to fill my shelf.
I’ve had good luck getting some nice ones in, including the harder-to-find Annapolis models. These old-factory models were actually hand made, easily identifiable with the original small logo and short neck heel. A lot of people incorrectly refer to Annapolis models as “pre-factory”, the reason for which I haven’t a clue.
